A camping walkie talkie is a great idea for keeping in contact with other members of your group, and I am always sure to bring a set or two whenever I go camping in large groups. It makes everyone feel safer and has honestly helped get us out of a jam several times over the years.
Aside from that, if you have kids, they really love to play with them! Walkie talkies come in all shapes and sizes β cheap and expensive. I prefer to spend a little extra and make sure the range and reliability are up to snuff β just in case. As I always say, you just never know when something can go wrong, so always be prepared. With that said, here are a few walkie talkies I recommend:
Motorola MH230R Two Way Radio β this is a very lightweight walkie talkie that has a 23 mile radius. It is perfect for taking hikes and keeping in touch with your party. Best of all it has a weather receiver that will keep you abreast of the latest conditions and threats of incoming storms.
Wristwatch Walkie Talkie (AGPtek) β this is a really cool idea that is perfect for campers. These wrist walkie talkies come in a set of four, and they can be strapped on like a watch (it displays the time of day also). The only drawback is the range is only about 4 miles.
Midland Outfitter Series GXT1050VP4 β has the same features as the Motorola ones, but it is also waterproof and also comes with two headsets for hands free communication. A great feature is that is also has private communication so you can talk to just one person in your party, without everyone else hearing your conversation (gossip maybe?).
All of these camping walkie talkies are perfect for keeping your entire party in close communication with each other, and can be used in case of an emergency.
